《一生一世，江南老》
Forever Jiangnan
by Mo Bao Fei Bao / 墨宝非宝
✦
They first met at a family ancestral rite. By the reckoning of their family generations, she was supposed to call him older brother.
She was in her teens that year, newly arrived in Jiangnan. What she saw were gray walls and ancient trees beneath the falling rain. Beneath the walls and beside the trees, there was not a single soul in sight. Everything around her was empty. She always felt that something was missing, and she was deeply disappointed.
She did not know that, year after year, Jiangnan had been waiting for the wild geese flying south from the north, and that he, too, had been quietly waiting for her, day after day.
“Everyone says Jiangnan is a beautiful place. Those who wander here ought to grow old here.”
If you do not return, I will never grow old.
